The Election Commission (EC) has published the voter list for the presidential election. The voter list, containing the names of 349 Members of Parliament (MPs), was released on Thursday (August 6) night from the Election Commission Secretariat.

Earlier on the same day, the EC announced the schedule for the presidential election. According to the schedule, the last date for submitting nomination papers is August 13. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on August 16, and the last day for withdrawal of candidacy has been set for August 18.

Previously, on July 24, the country’s 22nd President, Md. Shahabuddin, resigned. Following this, the Election Commission began preparations for the 23rd presidential election.

As per election rules, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has already held a meeting with the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament).

It is worth noting that general voters in Bangladesh do not directly participate in the presidential election. Only Members of Parliament cast votes to elect the President. For this reason, the Election Commission publishes the list of Members of Parliament as the voter list for the presidential election.
