The government has planned to introduce three new textbooks from the upcoming 2027 academic year and one more in 2028. According to the plan, ‘Kheladhula’ (Sports) and ‘Bangladesh’s Culture’ will be added to the fourth grade, and ‘Learning with Happiness’ to the sixth grade in 2027. Subsequently, ‘Kheladhula’ (Sports) will also be incorporated into the curriculum for first graders from the 2028 academic year.

Education Minister Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan announced this information while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled ‘Review of Khelay Khelay Shikhi (Learning Through Play) Information Booklet’ at a hotel in the capital on Tuesday (August 18).

The Education Minister stated that a committee would be formed within the next week to formulate the new curriculum. This committee will be responsible for developing the new curriculum and textbooks for the 2028 academic year. The new curriculum will place special emphasis on learning through sports, creativity, and joy, alongside traditional studies.

He added that the government aims to cultivate a new generation from the primary level. The ‘Khelay Khelay Shikhi’ (Learning Through Play) program has been launched with this objective. While this program currently starts in the fourth grade, there are plans to introduce it from the first grade in the future.

The Education Minister informed that as part of the new curriculum’s implementation, there are plans to revise and add four books. Necessary activities regarding this will commence after the curriculum committee is formed.

Emphasizing the importance of involving children in sports, he stated that sports play a vital role in their physical and mental development. Concurrently, it is necessary to foster an interest in sports to keep them away from various antisocial activities.

At the workshop, the State Minister for Primary Education also highlighted the significance of learning through sports. He noted that play-based education helps enhance children’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Sharing his experiences from visits to China and Japan, he mentioned that the curricula in these countries integrate toys and games with specific grades and subjects. It is even specified in various chapters of textbooks which game or toy will be used to teach a particular topic.

Meanwhile, the Education Minister also announced that the government is considering introducing a separate pay scale for teachers. He remarked that a distinct salary structure is necessary for teachers, considering their status and responsibilities. He also highlighted the significant role teachers play in nation-building.

Additionally, the Education Minister stated that the government is also working on a plan to establish a sports university in Purbachal, Dhaka.
