Rani Mukerji has captivated audiences with her performances in diverse roles throughout her nearly three-decade-long career in Bollywood. Beyond entertainment, her films have also addressed significant themes such as social realities, women’s empowerment, and humanitarian values. Now, the actress has received an honorary doctorate in recognition of her acting career and humanitarian efforts.

La Trobe University in Australia awarded Rani Mukerji an ‘Honorary Doctor of Letters’ degree. With this, she becomes the second Indian film personality, after Shah Rukh Khan, to achieve this honour.

Throughout her extensive acting career, Rani has been seen in a variety of diverse roles. However, beyond just varied characters, she has also played significant roles in films centered on various social disparities, women’s rights and empowerment, and humanitarian values. Several of her films have not only entertained audiences but also encouraged them to reflect on various social issues. These contributions were also given importance by the university when honouring her.

Expressing her feelings after receiving the honorary doctorate, Rani Mukerji stated that this recognition from La Trobe University is one of the most emotional moments of her life. In her opinion, a good film not only entertains but can also bring about positive changes in the audience’s thoughts and feelings.

Rani also shared her preferences when it comes to choosing films. She is most interested in stories that first touch her heart. She gives special importance to narratives that need to be told, inspire people, or convey messages of empowerment.

According to Rani, an artist’s responsibility is not limited to acting in front of the camera. While promoting Indian cinema and culture on the international stage, an artist implicitly represents the culture of their country.

Therefore, the actress views her career’s success differently. For her, it’s a significant achievement if even one audience member is inspired to think differently about India or Indian women through one of her films. Now, with this honorary doctorate added to her long acting journey, her list of achievements has become even richer.
