Retired Justice A K M Asaduzzaman of the Supreme Court has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Simultaneously, Dr. Jahangir Alam Khan and Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan have been appointed as Commissioners.

A gazette notification in this regard was issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday (August 17) and subsequently published. According to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, the new Chairman and two Commissioners have been appointed for a five-year term.

The notification states that, as per Section 6, Subsection (1) of the ‘Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004’, Justice A K M Asaduzzaman, Dr. Jahangir Alam Khan, and Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan have been appointed as Commissioners. Furthermore, Justice A K M Asaduzzaman has been appointed as the Chairman of the Commission under Section 5, Subsection (1) of the same Act.

ACC Chairman Justice A K M Asaduzzaman will receive the same rank, salary, allowances, and other benefits as a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. The two Commissioners, on the other hand, will receive the same rank, salary, allowances, and other benefits as judges of the High Court Division.

Previously, on March 3, ACC Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen and Commissioners Mia Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brigadier General (Retd.) Hafiz Ahsan Farid resigned. This led to the vacant positions of the Chairman and two Commissioners.

Subsequently, on June 22, a selection committee was formed, headed by Justice Md. Rezaul Haque of the Appellate Division, to recommend appointments for the posts of ACC Chairman and Commissioners. The committee was tasked with preparing a list of two individuals for each vacant Commissioner position and submitting it to the President.

Subsequently, the selection committee invited curricula vitae (CVs) from interested candidates for the Chairman and Commissioner positions. Following the vetting process, the new Chairman and two Commissioners have been appointed.

According to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, the ACC is constituted with three Commissioners, one of whom is appointed as the Chairman, and the term of the Commissioners is five years.
