Prime Minister Tareque Rahman announced that teachers will no longer have to wander from office to office to receive their retirement funds. He made this statement on Saturday (August 15) at a ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital for the disbursement of retirement and welfare benefits to private teachers and employees.

The Prime Minister said, “Teachers will no longer have to go from office to office to get their retirement money. There will be no harassment. They will not have to rely on middlemen.”

He further stated, “We have seen the real situation of teachers in a video. Previously, they had to pay bribes to receive their allowance money. The ease with which funds are being transferred to teachers’ accounts today was not always the case. The previous fascist Awami League government plundered and crippled two retirement boards.”

Tareque Rahman also added, “There isn’t sufficient money in the teachers’ retirement fund; funds are being disbursed through special arrangements. Even though you have retired from teaching according to conventional rules, you are still teachers. Your role is universally accepted.”

Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the teachers’ retirement and welfare benefits. This marked the beginning of the distribution of funds from the teachers’ retirement and welfare trust. Applications for welfare trust benefits for private educational institution teachers and employees have been verified and processed through iBAS++.

The government has allocated a one-time sum of BDT 2035.86 crore for the payment of these retirement and welfare funds to teachers and employees. To clear the backlog of teachers’ dues that had accumulated for four long years, these funds are being sent simultaneously to teachers’ individual bank accounts across all 64 districts of the country.

Previously, on August 6, Prime Minister Tareque Rahman gave his consent to disburse retirement and welfare trust funds to 119,000 teachers and employees at a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Among those present at the event held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium were Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milan, Prime Minister’s Education Affairs Advisor and Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin, and Education Secretary Abdul Khalek, among many others.
