Prime Minister Tarique Rahman remarked that the fascist government, over more than a decade and a half, has destroyed various sectors of the country, including education, health, and economy. He stated that it is now time to reconstruct these sectors, and the current government is working towards that goal.

He made these remarks on Monday (August 10) afternoon at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre in the capital, during the inauguration ceremony of activities for three villages under the SDG Village Pilot Program.

On this day, the Prime Minister inaugurated the activities of three villages under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Village Pilot Program, a first for the country. The selected villages are Nafanagar in Bochaganj Upazila, Dinajpur; Pankhali in Dacope Upazila, Khulna; and Mitinggachhari in Kaptai Upazila, Rangamati.

During the event, the Prime Minister stated that a situation of destruction has been created in almost all sectors, including education, health, and economy, over more than a decade and a half. Now, the government is moving forward with the goal of reconstructing these sectors and building the country as a democratic and welfare state.

He added, “SDGs have a crucial role to play in this journey of national reconstruction. It is not possible for any single ministry or department to achieve the SDG targets alone. Cooperation from all relevant parties is required for this.”

Tarique Rahman said that the government’s public policy aligns with the core principle of SDGs, ‘leaving no one behind.’ The government’s objective is to ensure the interests of people from all walks of life in the country. Therefore, the government’s policy is ‘Bangladesh for All.’

The Prime Minister stated that to ensure sustainable development, emphasis is being placed on improving the living standards of people in remote areas, increasing access to education and healthcare, creating employment, and enhancing economic capacity. Through the SDG Village Pilot Program, these initiatives will be coordinated to create an effective development model.

He further added that Bangladesh has shown success in implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Similarly, Bangladesh is systematically taking and implementing various steps to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, along with other relevant officials, were present at the event.
