Despite a decrease in both the pass rate and the number of GPA-5 recipients in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations, Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has described the results as “beautiful.”

He made this remark in response to a question at a press conference held on Monday (August 10) after the announcement of the SSC and equivalent examination results.

This year, the total pass rate for the SSC and equivalent examinations is 62.25 percent. A total of 116,676 students achieved GPA-5. Last year, 139,032 students secured GPA-5, indicating a decrease in the number of GPA-5 recipients compared to the previous year.

When the Education Minister’s attention was drawn to the decline in the pass rate and GPA-5, he urged not to view the matter negatively.

The Education Minister stated, “Why are you calling it bad? It’s a beautiful result.”

He added that during the evaluation of exam scripts, the true achievements of the students were given importance. In this context, he quipped, “You can sing with an open heart, but you cannot give marks with an open heart.”

Despite the decrease in the pass rate and GPA-5 in this year’s results, according to the Education Minister, the outcome should be viewed not merely as a numerical assessment but as a reflection of students’ true merit and competence.

This year, a total of 1,857,344 students filled out forms for the SSC and equivalent examinations. Among them, 1,418,398 students participated in the SSC examinations under nine general education boards, 304,286 in the Dakhil examinations under the Madrasah Education Board, and 134,660 in the SSC (Vocational) examinations under the Technical Education Board.
