The government has initiated steps to cancel the bail of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed. For this purpose, a law firm has been appointed in Dubai, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed stated.

He revealed this information in response to journalists’ questions after a consultative meeting with range and metropolitan police officers and members at Rajshahi Police Lines on Sunday afternoon (August 2).

The Home Minister said that upon learning about Benazir Ahmed’s bail, he immediately spoke with the Home Secretary. Subsequently, contact was also made with Bangladesh’s Ambassador in Dubai.

He added, “A law firm was appointed a few days ago to work on this matter. They have been instructed to take necessary legal steps to cancel the bail.”

The Home Minister further informed that he learned Benazir Ahmed was granted bail on the condition that he would not leave the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, instructions have been given to collect a certified copy to confirm the bail conditions.

He also stated that Benazir Ahmed went there through a legal process, and the government is also taking necessary steps legally. Efforts are underway to cancel his bail and swiftly bring him back to the country, he added.
